The ultimate home bar for your bachelor pad
Words by Mr. Jackson
I’ve always been so intrigued by the home bar. I don’t know why but the artwork, the aesthetic, and the history behind every bottle has always fascinated me. And it wasn’t until I was of age to drink did I really start collecting and designing my living space based around where the bar would be set up. The home bar is a sign of comfort and says to you and your guests, “Welcome to my home, can’t you tell I’m a sophisticated gentleman?” Or maybe that’s just what I hope for them to think. Either way, adding a home bar will make your living space so much more stylish and with time, you can do so affordably.
When first starting out with your home bar the first thing you’re going to need is well, a bar. This can be in the form of a bar cart, a bar cabinet, or even a space on the countertop that is unused. My preference is the bar cabinet. The bar cabinet allows you to show a portion of your bar as well as keeping it a little mysterious making your guest wonder whats on the inside. You can find an affordable bar cabinet practically anywhere, Amazon, Habitat for Humanity, a yard sale, hell your grandfather may even have one sitting in his garage that’s hasn’t been used in years. Pictured below are some of our favorite bar cabinet inspirations. And yes I do believe you should have a picture of Roger Moore included.

The next thing you’re going to want to add is the cocktail making essentials. The only things you’ll need are a mixing glass, a shaker with a strainer, a jigger, and a bar spoon. These products can become expensive and add up quickly but my suggestion would be to do your research and work with whatever is in your budget. With that being said though you should buy ones that are of good quality and relatively inexpensive. I would recommend checking out Cocktail Kingdom to get yourself started. Their products are affordable and will last you forever.

Lastly you’ll need to add your liquor, mixers, bitters, and syrups. Now you don’t need all of this from the start so let’s focus on just adding your liquor. This all comes down to what you prefer. For example my home bar always stays stocked up with Gin, Campari, and Sweet Vermouth because one never knows when the soul is in need of a Negroni. Though this all comes down to you and what you prefer to always have on hand ready to serve at any given moment. Our recommendation would be to always keep the 5 basic bottles on deck at all times. This includes, a vodka, a gin, a whiskey, a rum, and a tequila. There’s many different options out there to choose from and just work with whats in your budget and build from there. The home bar is something that shows your uniqueness. Let your character and who you are as a person speak through your home bar. Besides it’s something you’ll see every day so make it count.
